On January 10, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Stout St., Randleman, regarding a burglary that had already occurred. Upon arrival, the caller stated that there had been an outbuilding fire on the property on January 8th and that it was discovered that someone had stolen items from the building just before the fire. The victim advised that the Randleman Fire Department and the Fire Marshal’s office had responded at that time and were conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
The victim stated that she confronted her neighbor, Jamie Lee Potts, about the items and was able to recover the power tools from the address but she was still missing a few items. He left after their encounter and before the call to 911.
During the investigation, the deputy located Kacy Rene Goss, also of the same address as Potts, to ask about the theft and the items located in his residence. Following the investigation, he was placed under arrest and escorted to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office so that the Fire Marshall could interview him for their investigation into the fire. Following the interview, Goss was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of stolen goods and misdemeanor larceny. He was given a $1,000 secure bond and is set to appear in Randolph County District Court on January 11, 2024.
Shortly after, the deputy was advised that an area agency was out with Potts. He was retrieved, arrested, and also transported to the Sheriff’s Office for an interview with the Fire Marshal, after which he was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of stolen goods and misdemeanor larceny. He was given a $1,500 secure bond and is set to appear in Randolph County District Court on January 11, 2024.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
