On November 10, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to US Hwy 220 South, Asheboro, in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies located the vehicle and occupant, Alan Dale Burgess, who was found to be on parole and was subject to warrantless searches. While speaking with Burgess, deputies noticed a fully loaded Glock pistol magazine in the passenger front seat, therefore, they detained Burgess.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a pistol under the driver’s seat, methamphetamine, additional ammunition, paraphernalia, and an opened alcoholic beverage in the vehicle. Burgess was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of firearm by felon, felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor open container alcohol violation, misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a $250,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for November 13, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
