On April 1, 2026, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hawksview Rd., Franklinville, in reference to a suspicious vehicle.
Upon arrival, deputies located a truck stationary in the middle of the roadway and still running. The male subject, identified as Tony Roger Ward, was slumped over in the driver’s seat. Deputies suspected Ward was under the influence of an impairing substance and requested the North Carolina Highway Patrol to respond. When Ward exited the vehicle, illegal narcotics were observed and recovered. Ward was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held without bond due to being out on pretrial release. His first court appearance was set for April 6, 2026, in Randolph County District Court.
