On July 5, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Detective went to Hulin McDowell Road, Denton, to verify an address on registered sex offender, Robert Aukele Brandon Kawelo. The property owner advised that Kawelo had left two to three days prior and would not be returning. By law, Kawelo must appear in person to give written notification of any address change within three business days. Kawelo had not reported a new address to the Sheriff's Office so a warrant was sought for felony sex offender -failure to notify new address.
On October 7, 2022, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office located Kawelo in their jurisdiction. He was arrested and transported to the Davidson County Detention Center where he was served his outstanding warrant for arrest and issued a $15,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for November 3, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
