Commissioner Meeting Recap for March 2, 2026

The March meeting of the Randolph County Board of Commissioners included policy updates and requests.   

A few highlights:

  • Dr. Stephen Gainey with Randolph County School System requested $878,000 from the Public School Building Repair & Renovation Fund from the NC Educational Lottery for roof replacement at Coleridge Elementary School; approved
  • Pertaining to the County’s Sign Ordinance, Kim Heinzer, Director of Randolph County Planning & Zoning, presented the updated Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) with the changes that were discussed from the last commissioners meeting; approved
  • Chief Deputy Steven Nunn from Randolph County Sheriff’s Office brought forth a request for three 2026 F-150 $142,099.02 for police responders; approved
  • Chief Deputy Nunn also requested approval to purchase with law enforcement restricted funds, 225 Glock pistols, holsters, and sights $295,188; approved
  • Voluntary Agricultural District Chairman Bobby Allen presented that 11 new parcels have been added to the VAD program, and totals 131,301 acres
  • County Manager Zeb Holden brought forth to the commissioners the updated Library Board of Trustees Ordinance and new By-Laws, which were created and reviewed by County Attorney Ben Morgan and the county's legal staff; approved
  • Nikki Jenkins with Randolph County Family Crisis Center presented the current situation of the organization, with the need going up by 60%, and funding that has decreased. They made necessary budget cuts and have worked to diversify funding. She, along with Board Member Aundrea Azelton and District Attorney Andy Gregson, requested a $75,000 advance to be used for matching grants, which would replace the 2026-2027 Budget request; approved

The next regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners is set for 6pm on Monday, April 6, 2026.
