On May 23, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the area of NC Hwy 22 N., Franklinville. Upon approach to the vehicle, the deputy made contact with the driver and explained the reason for the stop. The deputy also observed a firearm in the open center console of the vehicle. The driver was ordered out of the vehicle and the driver refused, put the vehicle in drive, and drove away. The deputy pursued the vehicle approximately 1.3 miles until the vehicle pulled into a driveway in the 2400 block of NC Highway 22 North. The driver jumped out of the truck and fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the suspect was taken to the ground. While attempting to secure the suspect in handcuffs the suspect stated that he had a gun on him and made attempts to retrieve it. Following a brief struggle, the deputy was able to secure both hands in handcuffs. Once detained, the deputy located the firearm in his right front pocket. The suspect was identified as Dylan Michael Johnson. During a subsequent search and inventory of the vehicle for towing, methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia were located.
Johnson was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle, misdemeanor resist public officer, misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor carrying concealed gun, and misdemeanor fail to wear seat belt. He was also served with an outstanding warrant for arrest for five counts misdemeanor larceny and five counts misdemeanor possession of stolen goods/property. He received a $28,000 total secured bond with Electronic House Arrest as a condition of release. A first appearance was schedule for May 24, 2023 in Randolph County District Court.
