Update of the Randolph County Growth Management Plan
History of the Randolph County Growth Management Plan
In 2002, Randolph County Board of Commissioners adopted the Randolph County Growth Management Plan with the following goals:
- To encourage quality and sustainable growth;
- To accommodate new growth while preserving the heritage and natural resources of Randolph County; and
- To maintain a healthy balance between economic viability and livability by recognizing the direct connection between development and our County's quality of life.
The Growth Management Plan is not a detailed, lot by lot, site-specific land use plan as shown on the County zoning maps. The Plan prepares broad policy statements that will, when combined with designed Growth Management Areas, form an overall growth management philosophy for Randolph County. The Plan provides options to land owners and developers that will still accomplish growth management objectives. The policies should be used by landowners, developers, Planning Staff, Randolph County Planning Board members and the Randolph County Board of Commissioners.
The plan was last updated in 2009.
Update of the Randolph County Growth Management Plan
With the announcement of the Toyota Battery Site coming to the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite and Wolfspeed Semiconductors coming to the Chatham County Megasite, the northeast portion of Randolph County is going to be experiencing growth pressures that have never been experienced before in the history of the County. In January, 2023, the Randolph County Board of Commissioners entered into an agreement with the Piedmont Triad Regional Council to update the Randolph County Growth Management Plan specifically looking at northeast Randolph County. The Randolph County Manager appointed a Steering Committee to work on the Growth Management Plan update and they started working in January, 2023. The Steering Committee meets every month and works on different parts of the Plan to better reflect the current situation.
